bridges & dentures
In order to improve the appearance of your smile, or to reduce the strain caused to existing teeth, when some teeth are missing, Bridges and Dentures can be used. This also assists the prevention of food getting trapped in ‘gaps’ in your teeth, causing decay and gum disease.
Q. How are missing teeth replaced?
There are two main ways to replace missing teeth:
- With a removable false tooth or teeth (a partial denture)
- With a fixed bridge - this is used where there are fewer teeth to replace or when the missing teeth are only on one side of the mouth
Replacement teeth are usually made of plastic or porcelain and are specially made to get the right colour, shape and size for the gap involved.
The dentist will advise which method is the most appropriate for your particular ‘gap’ and which material should be used. He will also advise on any cost implications on the chosen method so you can receive the care that is most appropriate to your dental requirements and your budget.
